Meet Barbara one of the incredible cosplayers attending Comic Con Honolulu. In the hustle and the bustle of the con it can be tricky to get to know people, so we wanted to give you a chance to get to know some of the amazing talent right here on island!

What inspired your first cosplay?

It was a mix of things. Josh‘s influence because he cosplays, and when I saw wonder woman’s debut in the batman vs superman I thought she was badass. Also, Wonder Woman is an iconic figure in the comic book world.

What is the hardest part of cosplaying for you?

I think maybe deciding which one I want to do because there are so many characters I want to cosplay.

What are the three most essential things to have with you when cosplaying at a convention?

Good footwear or back up pair, water, and snacks!

Have you had any unique experiences due to both of you cosplaying?

We’ve been on the news together! And a lot of people were very supportive of our cosplays even if they’re two different comics (DC and Marvel). Also, this experience of being asked to possibly be featured on the website and I’ve been recognized in the public outside of costume.

What is the best cosplaying advice you received?

To have fun & don’t be afraid to try new things.

What are some of the best things you’ve learned about yourself since you started cosplaying?

Since it was my first one, I was surprised to learn that I seem to have a natural knack for it and I can bring a cosplay to life. I found it brings out my creative side which is something I don’t get to express often in my everyday life.

Who is your hero? (real life or fictional)

I would have to say my parents. They’re actually my uncle and Aunty but have raised me as their own by choice.

A new cosplayer wants some advice – what do you tell them?

To not be afraid of trying something new and keep an open mind. to network and swap ideas with others in order to grow.

What has been one of the coolest things to come from cosplaying?

Being on the news, and possibly being in a short film. Also, being recognized by strangers when I’m not in costume. But, the most coolest are all the little kids that were so excited to meet me especially little girls who idolize Wonder Woman.
